Radio 3ZZZ
Radio 3ZZZ commenced broadcasting 24 hours a day in 1989 after a long struggle to offer a broadcasting service to ethnic communities in Melbourne. The radio nowadays broadcasts in more than 60 languages. The Spanish language has been part of this radio station since its founding.
It is a multicultural and multilingual institution which is run primarily by volunteers operating in the inner city suburb of Fitzroy.
Radio 3ZZZ aims to promote the values of multiculturalism, democratic participation, giving voice to those with little participation in mainstream media.
Radio 3ZZZ can be heard throughout the metropolitan area of Melbourne and its surroundings. Our programs can also be heard all over Australia and worldwide via Internet.
Mission of the Spanish Speaking Group.
The Spanish Language Broadcasting Group recognizes that our role is to inform, educate and entertain in our language, whilst
promoting our culture and Hispanic-Latin-American identity in Australia. Our group, thus, puts special emphasis on "the local" aspects of our community, without forgetting the general Hispanic-Latin-American and golbal contexts.
Through our programs we aim to represent communities from 21 Spanish speaking countries, including indigenous cultures. Our programs invite the participation of all sector of our community, including young people, women, seniors and all the voices from our community.
The commitment of the Spanish Language Group, the Committee and the volunteers is:
1- To give voice and equal rights to women and the different voices that have been historically underrepresented in the mainstream media and society. For example: the female gender, the elderly, ethnic and sexual minorities, among others.
2- To communicate through responsible, respectful, inclusive and politically correct language.
3- To promote the values of multiculturalism, democratic participation, community service and social justice.
4- To produce high quality programs both technically and content.
5- To promote team work among the volunteers.
